Welcome New Members!
Thank you for stopping by to find out more about the Peterborough branch of the Taoist Tai Chi Society or perhaps Taoist Tai Chi in general.

This club is located in downtown Peterborough, at 346 Charlotte Street, between Park and Reid. We are delighted with our new location, with ground floor access and lots of room to stretch, bend, and ward off those monkeys! Parking is readily available on the street or in a city parking lot behind the club.
Each of us should feel at home in this club and that we are among friends. We come together to relax, to learn, to help out with a project or a class and to share in conversation and some tea. This is the atmosphere we hope you will experience when you join us.
Following is some information to get you started. Please follow the links for more detail.
- As a new member, you will attend classes as a beginner for the next four months. You will become acquainted with the moves of the Taoist Tai Chi 'set'. You should attend your class and practice at home as regularly as possible, and make sure your instructor knows of any significant health problems you may have. If you have to miss classes, your instructor can help you arrange to make them up. You are also welcome to attend weekly 'open practice sessions', and have questions answered. Check our schedule to find out what happens when.
Once you have completed your beginner course, we encourage you to move on to 'ongoing' level classes. Here you will build upon what you learned, working out more of the nuances of each move and learn more about the health benefits you can experience through continued practice and understanding of Taoist Tai Chi.
Eventually you can go on to 'continuing' levels, where you will learn the foundation exercises and work with others of your level to perfect your skill.
- Some things to remember:
- Tai Chi is for all ages, and you do not need to be in top physical condition to practise it.
- Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing to class.
- Please do not wear street shoes in class - bring a spare pair of sneakers or just wear socks.
- Bring your own teacup. You may label it and leave it at the facility.
- Parking is in the municipal lot behind the club or on Charlotte St.
The Taoist Tai Chi Society is made up almost entirely of volunteers. For the student, being taught by a volunteer means receiving attention that is motivated by enthusiasm and belief in the benefits of the art. Teaching Taoist Tai Chi is not 'just a job' to these volunteers. An accredited Taoist Tai Chi instructor must meet the national standards set by Master Moy and continually upgrade his or her knowledge through attendance at regular classes and workshops. Much of the administration of the clubs is done on a volunteer basis as well. The Directors of the local,
regional and national levels donate their valuable time to work for the Society.
- As a member, you are welcome to become involved as a volunteer, attend social events and take part in other club activities. The Taoist Tai Chi Society of Canada has conducted fund-raising campaigns for the Arthritis Society of Canada, the Muscular Distrophy Association of Canada, Parkinsons, the United Way and other charities.
- The Taoist Tai Chi Society of Canada is a registered Charitable Organization (#11925 8655 RR0001). Membership dues are used to meet financial obligations, to introduce Taoist Tai Chi to other areas, and to contribute to other worthwhile causes.
It is therefore very important that you pay your dues promptly when they are due. A reduced annual rate is available by paying dues in advance.
Keep in touch through your instructor, by reading the bulletin board at the club, and by checking this web site. If you have any questions about Taoist Tai Chi, the Society or our sister organizations, the Fung Loy Kok Institute of Taosim or Gei Pang Lok Hup Academy, do not hesitate to ask your instructor or contact one of the staff or a volunteers.
