About

Atlas Moves Watching presents "Panopticon" , a new work by choreographer Bill James and multi-media artist Shelagh Young, set in an environment where dance, poetry, sound and image implicate the audience in the present. "Panopticon" refers to 19th century prison design , where all prisoners are watched from a central tower. The work was developed in the fall of 2001 during a residency by Atlas Moves Watching in Peterborough, Ontario and was produced by Peterborough New Dance. A cast of ten dancers interact within a multimedia environment incorporating sound, sculpture and video.

Quotes

"Order is imposed only to deteriorate into chaos and finally bedlam. Performed to a pulsing, percussive score augmented by digital scratching, leads to the feeling of something tribal and troubled."
-Jonathan Fiddler, "The Examiner", Peterborough
