About

Les espaces enchanteurs was created in 1999 as part of "Water Sources 2", a festival of site-specific performance. The work is the result of a commission from/collaboration with the group ch'a (dancers Yvonne Ng, Bonnie Kim, Susan Lee and Andrea Nann) and originally performed in the Toronto Music Garden.

Inspired by Bach's Suite No. 1 for Unaccompanied Cello, the six movements of the dance suite - Prelude, Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Minuet and Gigue - correspond to a river, a birch forest, a hill, a glade, a shelter of evergreens and a willow tree.
