TORONTO, June 16...Art in Open Spaces and Atlas Moves Watching present Water Sources 2, an unprecedented artistic journey curated by choreographer Bill James and composer Chiyoko Szlavnics that combines eight water sculptures and fountains in downtown Toronto with eight dynamic performances by six contemporary choreographers and seven composers.

Michael Mc Mahon, former Archivist, Toronto Central Archives, will lead a walking tour, discussing the history of water sources, public art, urban design of public spaces, and more between performances.

Running Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 23rd through July 25th, Water Sources 2 begins at Roy Thomson Hall forecourt at 2:15 pm sharp and winds through downdown to Toronto's waterfront Harbour Square West Park at 5:00.

An $8.00 button is the ticket to enjoy this tour, available in advance from at Pages Bookstore, 256 Queen St. W.

Six site-specific collaborative pieces, especially commissioned for Water Sources, will be premiered by artist-teams:

  • Julia Aplin choreographer / John Gzowski composer,

  • Robert W. Stevenson composer

  • Deepti Gupta choreographer / Howard Jerome actor / Mark Pasternak composer / Alma Roussy, muralist

  • Karen Kaeja, choreographer / Juliet Kiri Palmer composer

  • Bill James choreographer / Ch/a dance collective

  • Juliet Kiri Palmer performance artist

We will remount "Indigo" by Sudharshan Duraiyappah, choreographer, with dancer Nalo Hopkinson and "La Maison aux lumières brulès" by Montreal composer, Luc Marcel with Jaques Drouin, pianist & Olivier Loubry, tapdancer.

In addition a version of Newfoundland film maker/choreographer Anne Troake's "The Sinking" will show continuously in the window display at Pages Books and Magazines, 256 Queen St. W., from July 21st -July 25th.

Water Sources 2, Art in Open Spaces' third venture combining contemporary performing arts and visual arts (the first was presented in September 1995) -- is presented with the support of Ann Southam, the Toronto Arts Council, Ontario Arts Council, The Canada Council for the Arts and Laidlaw Foundation.
