FIDDLE CONTEST RULES

1. Contestants must play a waltz, jig, reel or breakdown - in that order.

2. Fiddle Time - 4 minutes maximum. There will be no penalty or judging after the bell sounds.

3. Only one instrument for accompaniment.

4. Tunes must be played Canadian Olde Tyme Style.

5. Contestants may compete in one class only - except for Duet or Novelty Classes.

6. Fiddlers in the Open Class must play a new set of tunes in the finals.

7. The 8 & Under Fiddling Class is required to play a waltz, jig, reel or breakdown of their choice - 1 tune only.

8. Novelty Fiddling Class - maximum two tunes - 1 or 2 fiddlers.

9. Duet Fiddling Classes - must play a waltz, jig and a tune of their choice in harmony - maximum two fiddlers.

10. Judges will award points for tone, tempo - (dance, step dance or square dance), technique (Canadian style) and accuracy (intonation).

 

STEP DANCE CONTEST RULES

   1. Contestants must dance a clog, jig and reel in that order, without stopping.

   2. Step Dance Time - 4 minutes maximum. There will be no penalty or judging after the bell sounds.

   3. The 8 and Under Step Dance Class is required to dance a clog, jig or reel of their choice - 1 only.

   4. Step Dance Classes 19 - 49 and 50 and Over must dance a reel only.

   5. Contestants may compete in one class only - except for Group Classes.

   6. Judges will award points for timing, execution, variety of steps and showmanship.

   7. No rags or novelty tunes allowed except in Group Step Dancing Classes.

   8. Group Step Dancing - 3 to 6 people. Time - 5 minutes maximum. Contestants may only enter one Group Step Dancing Class.

   9. Average age of 12 & Under Group must be under 13.

10. No records, CD'S or audio cassettes allowed.
