2007 Heritage Awards Winners

    The five awards are named in honour of former citizens of Peterborough who made significant contributions to the Peterborough area. The Awards committee, Art Turner, Graham Hart and Louis Taylor, have chosen the 2007 winners listed below:


    The winners for 2007 are:


    The F.H.Dobbin Award which acknowledges exceptional coverage of historical events, articles, photos or videos: After considerable deliberation the committee decided that, because of the excellence of the many submissions, that there should be two awards in this category:

    (a) Millbrook and Cavan Historical Society for the production of the book Significant Architecture of Millbrook depicting Millbrook from the 1820s to the present and

    (b) Elwood Jones, Andrew Elliott and The Peterborough Examiner for the articles published regularly on local historical and architectural topics.


    The Charlotte Nichols Award which is awarded to individuals or groups who make substantial financial donations for the preservation and/or recognition of historic sites, artefacts etc.

    Awarded to the Mayor and City Councillors of Peterborough for their Classification of Hutchison House Living History Museum as a Municipal Capital Facility of the City of Peterborough.


    The Samuel Armour Award recognizing the involvement and exposure of students to local historical opportunities, programs and/or development of curriculum based on local history.

    Awarded to The United Empire Loyalists, Kawartha Branch, for its efforts toward historical education pertaining to the United Empire Loyalists in Peterborough County.


    The J. Hampden Burnham Award is given to individuals, groups or organizations who establish a venue for public awareness of historical events, places or people.

    Awarded to The Kawartha Miniature Project for their creation of Riverview miniature Village at Riverview Park and Zoo.


    The George Cox Award given for historical restoration and/or preservation of Peterborough properties. i.e. artefacts, structures, gardens, parks etc.

    Awarded to Scott Stewart and Dana Merrett, owners of Carlson Wagon-lit Stewart Travel for the restoration and preservation of Hammond Hall.
