The Peterborough Historical Society
Area Museums and Archives Honoured In
May Is Museum Month
DATE: May 2008
Mayor Paul Ayotte has proclaimed May as Museum Month.

The Peterborough Historical Society is pleased to have initiated the designation of Museum Month in the City of Peterborough. Our sincere thanks to Mayor Ayotte for making this important declaration for the month of May, 2008.

Seventeen museums and archives provide us with historical information about our area through their varied collections and programs open to the public. Copies of the Museum Month proclamation, signed by the mayor, have been distributed by the Peterborough Historical Society, to each of these facilities asking them to proudly display them for public recognition and to celebrate Museum Month in their own way.

In 1896 the Peterborough Historical Society was formed understanding that a sense of history was important to our quickly changing community. In 1977 the Society became a legally constituted organization in order to restore Hutchison House the doctor’s house of 1837 as a Museum. The Society owns and supports Hutchison House as a Living History Museum.
